Europe's main centres of fashion, commerce, finance, diplomacy, science, and the arts.
The city is the centre and seat of administration of the Île-de-
France region, which has an expected official 2019 population of 12,213,364, about 18 percent of the total population of France. The region had a GDP of €709 billion in 2017. Paris was the second most expensive city in the world according to the Economist Intelligence Unit Worldwide Cost of Living Survey in 2018 after
Singapore, and ahead of Zürich, Hong Kong.
The
Paris city is exclusively known for its museums and architectural landmarks, the Louvre was the most visited art museum in the world in 2018, with 10.2 million travellers. The city’s Paris-Charles de Gaulle international airport and Paris-Orly airport serves as a major air-transport hub for international tourists.
